Eggs

Today we continued our journey into Egypt with a little conversation about eggs. Because of course the desert has mostly reptiles and not very many mammals. We watched a short video on all the things that hatch from eggs and then assembled our very own egg books. Then it was time for some FUN! An egg hunt of a different sort. But first everyone in the bathroom while the teacher works her magic ;) (I apologize that the pictures are a bit out of order, but you get the idea.)

Hope you all have a Happy Easter and Passover!

Next stop...

Today we continued working on our passports/travel journals as we packed up to leave Australia.

Our next destination, Egypt. We looked at the map and discussed different types of habitats that we might find in Egypt, which includes marine, river, desert, and more. We looked at photos and discussed the pyramids briefly.

We also took another plane ride, which this time included checking in with our passports and also having our luggage inspected for safety. I love all the vocabulary that we are using right now. This time I was able to step back a little more and observe as the children handled the flight on their own.

George

This friendly kitty's name is George, although when he first visited our playground several years ago the children unknowingly named him Belle. In the Fall of 2009, the children would arrive on the playground everyday to find George waiting for us. Did I mention he was one of the fattest fluffiest kitties I have ever met. After a couple weeks of his visits we went door to door in search of "Belle's" owners. We found his home several houses down on the way to Route 2. His owner was happy to introduce him as Curious George and the children were delighted to know he had a happy home (maybe a little disappointed that we couldn't keep him and that his name wasn't Belle).  Mid-November George stopped his visits, we were worried, but then occasionally we would see him wandering through the neighborhood.

I was VERY excited today when I turned around and sure enough there was George walking around the playground like he owned the place! Of course these kids didn't know who George was so after a friendly introduction it was as if  he had never left.

Thanks for visiting George. Come again soon.

Our Flight to Australia!

WE had so much fun Wednesday and Thursday as we prepared for the first destination on our journey. We used all sorts of new and interesting vocabulary like Australia, marsupial, turbulence, stewards, captains, and the list goes on and on. After leading the children through the initial steps of boarding and riding on a plane, they took right over. We also had the chance to begin working on our passports, which are going to serve a lot like travelogues. Don't worry we aren't done with Australia yet, we just arrived!
